The names for the
Pritchard amplifiers are inspired by amp character, they are full-bodied with
sparkling highs and they cut through! The aggressive nature of much of electric
guitar playing combined with cutting through demands the medieval swords and
daggers.
Swords have been
used in personal combat from the Bronze Age until the 20th Century. They evolved
from the leaf-shaped double-edged sword of the Assyrians, Gauls and Greeks
through the readily recognized medieval swords to the lighter rapiers and
sabers. The amps of Pritchard Amps have evolved from the PRS Harmonic Generator
through a period of enquiry and enlightenment to today’s production
amps. After years of research, Pritchard discovered that engineering avoided
the basic philosophy of musicians. This enlightenment, a real satori, influenced
Pritchard’s research and designs. The Sword of Satori is a two-channel
amp with cutting vintage natures that range from an airy clean through edge
and crunch to an over driven liquid scream.
During the Middle
Ages, swords grew longer. One particularly great sword used by mounted knights
was the saddle sword, estoc. Just as the estoc was derived from swords, Pritchard
Amps’ Gold Estoc evolved from the Sword of Satori. The Gold Estoc also
has two channels, but the second channel is modern instead of vintage. The
main channel is vintage and with its switchable gain boost can be clean and
dirty or anything in between. The second channel now has a post distortion
volume control and is nominally dirty. Its gain boost is post distortion and
can give you both rhythm and lead dirt. Like the great swords, Gold Estoc
will serve you well, taking you from airy acoustic tones to battling metal.
Daggers were carried
by knights as their second or third weapon. In addition to second thrusting
or slashing, daggers were used in the coup de grace. Pritchard Amps’
Daggers can give your thirst for tone the coup de grace. There are three of
these single channel amps to meet a variety of player demands. Black Dagger
has the original six voices to cover everything from airy through clean and
crunch to serious overdrive. For those driven to over drive, Blood Dagger
substitutes a vintage metal voice for the airy clean voice. And Jade Dagger
has predominately clean voices and an extra tone control for the predominately
clean player.
There is more to
swords and daggers than their cutting ability. Swords, Estocs, and Daggers
also have more: warmth, life, and more: full-body, and sparkling highs. These
wine adjectives also describe the very fine Chateaux Margaux. This inspired
the great Pritchard clean amp, Sultry Margaux. Margaux mixes the flavors of
an instrument channel with a general purpose mic or instrument channel to
impress the artist.
